With education-reform efforts presently the top priority in our state, Carl F. Kaestle’s “The Public Schools and the Public Mood” (February) was particularly interesting to me. The Kentucky Supreme Court recently declared our system of education unconstitutional, placing a great burden on the Kentucky legislature and my administration. I hope our efforts will bring better results than those indicated in your article. Incidentally, I particularly enjoyed the picture on page 74 taken at a rural Kentucky school in 1933.
